My Escape

One thing I've wished for all my life is my own horse. So when i was about 10, I got a pony, who then had a baby. I love Sugar and Spice to death. Spice is my baby, he never grew so he's only 200 pounds and about 3 feet tall. They're both spoiled to death. Spice gives me kisses, which I know most people find completely disgusting. They both love to lick you and just be near people. But as much as I love them and would never trade them for anything or anyone, I've always wanted a horse I could ride. So finally, this summer my dream came true.
A lady that owns a barn down the street came down one day and said that she was rescuing two horses who she didn't have room for and wanted us to take one for free. It was an offer we couldn't refuse. Bunny (a silly name for a horse, I know) is a Quarter Horse. She is almost 20 years old so she's perfect for a beginner horse. She's been trained before so I just have to retrain her because of the years of abandonment she went through.
It's been years since I've ridden other than a trail ride her or there and the feeling when I got up on her and took off through the pasture was indescribable. No matter what is going on in the world, no matter how much stress I have, it all just disappears when I'm flying through the yard on her back. There is no words to describe the real feeling you get when you ride a horse, especially your own. You have a connection with them like no other. Their eyes speak more than any person ever could. They listen better than an human ever would. And their trust will never go away.
The barn is my escape. Just walking in and having the smells and sounds around is amazing. The first thing out of everyone's mouth when they walk into a barn is normally "eww" but I don't even notice the smell. Spice is my mircle, I can't help but smile when he whinnies as we walk in. It's the best sound in the world to me, nothing makes me happier.

  1. Brittany, this is absolutely fantastic. The pictures are great and you do a super job of explaining everything. I am afraid I will have to embarrass you and point this out to the class as the most perfect blog I think I have seen.
