Everyone always expects so much out of summer when nothing ever really happens. We wait all school year for summer vacation just to sit around bored and wait for school to start again. Most student's summers consist of staying up all night and sleeping all day. On June 1st, right before summer started, my cousin had her baby boy. I got to hold Matthew Shawn on the day he was born. You never realize how special a baby is until you hold one in your arms and look into his/her eyes. Babies are just one of God's many miracles. I'm excited to be a part of his life while he grows up.
Our family vacation was planned for the first week of summer, but the Friday before, my pony,Spice, got sick. He got colic, which is like a bad stomach ache for horses. When they get colic they roll around to get rid of the pain, which makes their intestines get all tied together. Luckily, we got to Spice before he got too bad and we were able to get him to OSU. They did many amazing procedures and Spice didnt take his eye off my mom or I to make sure we didn't leave him. He's only 5 and is very small for a pony, so he's very dependant and spoiled. They kept him overnight and we went and got him the next day. We were glad for it to be over and to have him home again.
We went to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for 5 days during the summer. It was fun and had many strange experiences involved.
One day while my parents were mowing the lawn of one of our rental properties, my mom found a puppy tied up by the railroad tracks behind the house. She was about 8 weeks old, had no food or water, and only about a foot of rope to walk around on. She brought her home and we all instantly fell in love with her. But my dad didn't want another dog so we had to call the pound in case she was lost. The next day my mom decided she had to have her and called the pound. They said she would be held in Lost and Found for 3 days and then put up for adoption. So, on the third day, we had to go back and pay to adopt her. Ever since, we have began to remember what the puppy stage involves. She is crazy, but so cute you have to love her anyway.
We also rescued a horse at the end of summer. A lady named Cathy, that lives down the street from our ponies, came down one day to ask if we wanted a free horse, which is something we couldnt pass up, so we went down to look at her. She had rescued 2 horses from a guy who went into a nursing home and couldn't care for them anymore. They had been out in a field by themselves for a year. Her name was Bunny and she's a quarter horse. She's about 20 years old, which is the only downfall. She's already been broke and knows most of the commands so I just have to retrain her. You can tell that all she wants is love and attention, which is what all rescue animals need.
